NEWS - TriticeaeGenome Kick-off meeting (Clermont-Ferrand, France)

The kick-off meeting of the TriticeaeGenome project was held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, from 11 to 13 June 2008. The meeting was organised by INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) and INRA Transfert, and hosted by the Research Centre of INRA Clermont-Ferrand-Theix (Crouël site). Financial support for the kick-off meeting was part of the support provided for the TriticeaeGenome project by the European Commission in the framework of FP7 (Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development).

Over 70 participants attended the first morning of the meeting, with a significant participation of politicians, head of breeding and seed companies and, journalists. The meeting opened with welcome remarks by Michel Beckert, the president of the INRA Clermont-Ferrand-Theix Centre, and by Catherine Feuillet, TriticeaeGenome project Coordinator. Different presentations on the perspectives for crop genomics research in France and in Europe were then given by François Houllier, (head of INRA PPV), Annette Schneegans (DG Research, European Commission) and Daniel Richard-Molard (French Ministry of Higher Education and Research). Finally, an overview of the project was provided by each workpackage leaders, Catherine Feuillet (WP1)-INRA (France), Nils Stein (WP2)-IPK (Germany), Laura Rossini (WP3)-UMIL (Italy), Alain Murigneux (WP4)-Biogemma (France), Klaus Mayer (WP5)-HMGU (Germany) and Alan Schulman (WP6)-MTT (Finland).

Between 40 and 45 participants attended the workshop of the TriticeaeGenome project in the afternoon of the 11th of June and on the 12th of June which dealt with the operational management and the establishment of the first steps of the project. Emmanuelle Lagendijk, European Project Manager (WP7 leader)-INRA Transfert, presented the key management issues that the TriticeaeGenome project will encounter. Pierre Chilès, Lawyer, INRA, explained Intellectual Property issues that are included into the Consortium Agreement of TriticeaeGenome. Different workshop sessions were then organised and moderated by each workpackage leader. The objectives of these workshops were to present the contents of each workpackage, the tasks and discuss their implementation. The 13th of June, 7 partners were present to finalise some decisions.


The main objectives of the kick-off meeting were to launch officially the TriticeaeGenome project, bring together all the partners and discuss the first steps of the project.
